I would like to know if a natural-born Philippine citizen who is also a naturalized citizen of Grenada may qualify for recognition as a dual citizen under RA 9225? Thank you.

Inquiry (BSI) 09:02 AM, Sep 04, 2023

September 4, 2023

Dear Raymundo Fonollera,

I refer to my letter of Aug 28, 2023 08:47:12 AM about your request under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch, for Dual Citizenship.

In order for us to work further on your request, we need more information from you regarding your query.

Is the applicant of legal-age when he/she was naturalized as a citizen of Grenada? It would help to know how the individual acquired his/her citizenship in order to know which process they fall unto, specifically if they are qualified for Recognition as Philippine Citizen or Republic Act 9225 (Dual Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003).

In particular, it would be helpful if you provided the following details:

Date of Birth:
Citizenship of Parents at the Time of Birth:
Date of Acquisition of Foreign Citizenship:
How it was acquired (Naturalization, by birth etc):

You may use the reply function on the eFOI portal at https://www.foi.gov.ph/requests/aglzfmVmb2ktcGhyHAsSB0NvbnRlbnQiD0JJLTQzNDg1NTc2NjE0NAw, for request with ticket number #BI-434855766144, to respond.

During the period of us awaiting your reply, your request will be put on hold. If we do not receive a reply on or before Nov 27, 2023 12:59:11 AM, your request will be closed.

We hope to hear from you at the soonest possible time.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

My query is hypothetical so for example --

Date of Birth: January 1, 1971
Citizenship of Parents at the Time of Birth: Both are Philippine citizens
Date of Acquisition of Foreign Citizenship: After RA 9225 took effect
How citizenship was acquired:
Naturalization -- citizenship by investment

I hope this clarification suffices.
Thank you for replying.
