Good day,

I would like to inquire regarding my case, I am a permanent government employee and i am planning to travel to Thailand with my foreigner boyfriend. I am financially capable to support my own expenses for the trip. And we will be there for a short vacation only.. I am applying for CFO since i will be travelling with my boyfriend who is a European national.. 
Do i still need to get an Affidavit of support/invitation letter from him authenticated from his country, even though i will be paying for all my own expenses such as flight tickets, hotel booking and any other expenses?

Thank you for your request dated Dec 01, 2022 03:27:56 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

You asked for Clarification on the Affidavit of Support from foreign national Boyfriend in getting CFO.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclosed a copy of the IACAT Revised Guidelines on Departure Formalities for International-Bound Passengers as a reference to the information you requested.

Please note that the original Affidavit of Support and Undertaking is a required document for sponsored travel. Since you would be travelling at your own expense, the guidelines does not require the same. CFO emigrant registration sticker under the guidelines is a requirement for immigrant visa holder leaving for the first time. 

However, you mentioned that you are a government employee and as a general rule, government employees are required to present travel authority from the heads of their department before traveling abroad and shall present the same to the Immigration Officer upon departure. 

Your right to request a review

If you are unhappy with this response to your FOI request, you may ask us to carry out an internal review of the response by writing to Norman G. Tansingco at xinfo@immigration.gov.ph. Your review request should explain why you are dissatisfied with this response, and should be made within 15 calendar days from the date when you received this letter. We will complete the review and tell you the result within 30 calendar days from the date when we receive your review request.

If you are not satisfied with the result of the review, you then have the right to appeal to the Office of the President under Administrative Order No. 22 (s. 2011).
