You asked for Nipah virus and masking.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. 

On October 5, 2023, the Department of Health issued a Department Memorandum No. 2023-0348 "Interim Guidelines on the Prevention, Surveillance, Case Management, Risk Communication, and Outbreak Response Strategy for Henipavirus (Nipah Virus and Hendra virus)" Below are the following recommendations relating to the use of face masks indicated in the above mentioned department morandum:

*To reduce human-to-human transmission, use of personal protective equipment properly, such as masks and gloves are highly recommended.

* Caregivers of individuals should wear masks and gloves to avoid exposure to blood or body fluids.

* Workers who handle pigs or horses should wear protective equipment (goggles, masks, boots and apron/body cover) to avoid exposure to saliva, urine or blood of possibly infected animals
