You asked for Thesis Study.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. 

This is in response to your eFOI request (#DOH-256786364821) regarding the number or percentage of different age groups with mental trauma in Bulacan. We hope to address your request as best as possible. Please refer to the Mental Health Program for an overview of the services we provide and some materials we readily share.  Rest assured that the Mental Health Division looks into these conditions in compliance with RA11036, otherwise known as the Mental Health Act, which encompasses mental, neurological and substance use (MNS) disorders.

As for your request, we are sharing with you the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) at the link:

 that highlights the priority conditions namely: depression, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, suicide, epilepsy, dementia, disorders due to use of alcohol, disorders due to use of illicit drugs, and mental disorders in children. When we define "trauma", it is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape, or a natural disaster. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. Trauma can lead to posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD. PTSD is one of the most common mental health disorders. Studies show that there is usually a spike in PTSD cases in the Philippines whenever there are natural calamities like the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 and when Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the country in 2013. However, the exact consolidated number of cases of PTSD (national data) is unknown. You may also refer to the Central Luzon Center for Health Development for data if available.

In the meantime, we would like to share with you the terminal report (attached) of the National Survey for Mental Health and Wellbeing (NSMHW) to give us a picture of the mental health status of the country as a whole while we wait for the consolidation of electronic medical records of patients and as we improve our information systems. Attached is also a study to give the general overview of the state of mental health services in the country.
