Dear RUBIO, SIAN MARI WANE,

Greetings!

Thank you for your request dated Nov 16, 2023 11:00:51 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your request

You asked for Attainment of Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Response to your request

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance this Office does not have [some of]* the information you have requested.

Currently, RITM is offering Culture and Susceptibility Testing for the said
pathogen of interest. In response to the inquiry, the RITM Memorandum No. 2022-315 pertaining to RITM Research Policy and Biosafety/ Biosecurity Guidelines do not allow the giving or selling of either clinical or biological samples, bacterial organisms/isolates as well as PCR products to students. Likewise, our Institute does not accommodate research undertakings requested by high school and college students for thesis purposes.

Nonetheless, you can make an inquiry to the Philippine National
Collection of Microorganisms (PNCM) which serves as the national repository of
microorganisms in the Philippines. It is under the National Institute of Molecular
Biology and Biotechnology located inside the UPLB campus in Los Banos, Laguna.

It is one of the service laboratories under the BIOTECH Technical Services Program whose prime function is to collect and preserve strains that have been isolated or acquired by the different projects of BIOTECH. The said laboratory also extends various services to students, schools, and the private sector as well. Detection, enumeration, and identification of various microorganisms are conducted in PNCM utilizing various samples such as foods, feeds, water, agricultural, and environmental samples. Well-characterized specific bacterial strains can also be purchased from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) through local distributors available in the Philippines:
