Good day,

I would like to ask what are the considerations for the classification of Vehicle Type by the Land Transportation Office?

Example:
SUV - ground clearance, weight etc
UV - type, ground clearance, weight etc
Non-conventional MC - three wheels, weight etc

Your Request

You asked for LTO Classification for Vehicle Type.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.
UV refers to utility vehicles whose gross vehicle weight shall not exceed 
4,500 kilograms and the passengers capacity there of is less than eighteen (18)
  According to the TYPE OF SERVICE, UV is classified as follows
1.PUJ refer to the vehicles used to transport passengers/cargoes along a fixed/specific route or line, with a maximum capacity of seventeen passengers:
2. SJ  refer to school jeepneys used to transport students with authority issued by LTFRB
SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE (SUV) shall include but not limited to any 
Imported completely built unit (CBU), SEMI-KNOCKED down (SKD ,
Completely knocked down(CKD) UNIT ,MODEL 1991 or later with 
Imported machine-cast body shell  specially designed to transport persons not used primarily for the carriage of freight, merchandise or cargo ,and having the characteristics, features and amenites similar to a car or automobile such as the following:
a.	Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero
b.	Nissan Patrol/Nissan Terrano
c.	Toyota land cruiser
d.	Toyota Rav4
e.	Ranger Rover
f.	Land Rover
g.	Ford Expeditions
h.	Jeep Cherokee
i.	Dalhatsu Feroza 
j.	Susuki Vitara
k.	Honda Crv 
l.	Mercedez Benz Musso
m.	Kia Sportage
n.	Opel Vectra and the line 
 Provided that all 1990 Models and earlier shall be taken as ordinary UV.
