October 6, 2022

Dear Kurt Liam Dones,

Greetings!

We refer to your letter dated October 6, 2022 about your request under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch, for Report on Violence Against Women in 2020 and 2021 in Metro Manila.

Your Request
Report on Violence Against Women in 2020 and 2021 in Metro Manila.

Response to Request
We are sending you the latest data on the reported VAWC cases in Metro Manila from 2020-2021 as provided by the Philippine National Police. Kindly see the attachment in this reply for the file we have received from the mentioned agency.

In the Philippines, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 penalizes domestic violence against women and their children. The law covers physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuses committed by intimate partners.

As of now, PNP is the only source of data on national incidence of violence against women having a well established reporting system through their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS). This electronic system is fully operational in all police stations and community precincts in the country.

Please ensure proper citation, and you may also email the PNP Women and Children Protection Center at omd.wcpc@pnp.gov.ph and statistics.wcpc@yahoo.com.ph for further assistance on data and analysis concerns.

As an additional data source, please also check the webpage of the Philippine Statistics Authority where the Annual Statistical Fact Sheets on Women and Men in the Philippines, which among others, contain VAW data, has been proactively disclosed: https://psa.gov.ph/gender-stat/wmf.
