Thank you for your request dated Jun 19, 2022 09:47:25 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

You asked for the following:
1. Number of Reported cases of VAWC and other forms of Gender-based Violence for the year 2021
2. Comparative statistics from 2016-2021.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. We are sending you the data on the number of reported cases of VAWC and other forms of Gender-based Violence for the year 2021 as well as the comparative statistics from 2016-2021, as provided by the Philippine National Police. Kindly see attached file in this reply for the file we have acquired from the mentioned agency.

In the Philippines, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 penalizes domestic violence against women and their children. The law covers physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuses committed by intimate partners.

As of now, PNP is the only source of data on national incidence of violence against women having a well established reporting system through their Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS). This electronic system is fully operational in all police stations and community precincts in the country.

Please ensure proper citation and you may also email the PNP Women and Children Protection Center at omd.wcpc@pnp.gov.ph and statistics.wcpc@yahoo.com.ph for further assistance on data and analysis concerns.

As an additional data source, please also check the webpage of the Philippine Statistics Authority where the Annual Statistical Fact Sheets on Women and Men in the Philippines, which among others, contain VAW data, has been proactively disclosed: https://psa.gov.ph/gender-stat/wmf.


Your right to request a review
