To whom it may concern, 
For our feasibility study entitled: “Lumos: Replacement of Halogen Bulb to LED Lights on Runway”, we would appreciate your answer regarding the following questions:
1. Does majority of your runway lights still use halogen-based bulbs or have they already transitioned towards LED bulbs? 
2. Could you identify your trusted suppliers for runway lights and installation services, and specify if they provide LED or halogen-based lights?
3. How frequently do you avail replacements for your runway lights, and what are the estimated costs for procuring them?

Your Request

You asked for Inquiry regarding Runway Lighting Systems used on airports throughout the Philippines.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. 

These are the answers to your inquiry:

Question No. 1- We are now upgrading from halogen-based bulbs to LED runway lights since they are more energy-efficient and cost-effective. Over time LEDs will be more economical and environmentally friendly option because they use less energy and have a longer lifespan. Currently, our Runway 06-24 has been converted from halogen-based runway centerline lights to LED runway centerline lights.

Question No. 2- Our contractors are undergoing public bidding since MIAA is a government agency. The contractors participating in the bidding process must meet specified qualifications. The runway lights we  require are all compliant with the Manual of Standards and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), such as ADB, Thorn, Osram, Narva, and others.

Question No. 3- The frequency of our replacements depends on the usage, intensity/brightness, the lamp's lifespan (normally 1000hrs/3-5months), and the conditions of the lighting. The estimated cost are been published on PhilGEPS, and the winning bidders will be the compliant bidder with the lowest bid amount.

Your right to request a review
