Andalis 10:13 AM, Jan 27, 2020

Dear DICT,

Good day! May I request for data on impact on connectivity by the 2020 Taal eruption as of present? If possible, I would like to request for a breakdown of its effects on various sectors, communication and internet connectivity as well as on related businesses (including foreign businesses, such as Japanese companies, etc).

I would also like to ask if there is an action plan for the recovery after the eruption.

If there is already official data available online, i would like to request for a link. Let me know if you need more details. Thank you!

Dear Gwendolyn Andalis,

Greetings!

Thank you for your request dated Jan 27, 2020 10:13:04 AM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

You asked for Impact of the 2020 Taal Eruption.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

Please note that we are only able to provide some of the information you have requested for as The impact on the connectivity of the Taal eruption is more of the disruption on the power or energy sector. Since there were times that the electric power went down to some portions of the affected areas, the supply to energize the cell sites of the TelCos was greatly affected. Thus, TelCos need to continuously do the refueling of the gensets in order to bring the communication network to normalcy. As for the Data, we need to request the different TelCos to give us data on the outages that they have experienced and the NTC is the rightful agency to mandate these TelCos in submitting such. On the Business side of the effects, it is beyond our mandate and therefore we do not have data on it. Hope these help.
