Your Request

You asked for Handloom weaving in taytay.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy some of the information you requested.

1. How many are active loom weavers in Taytay Rizal?

-We have no information on active loom weavers in Taytay, Rizal.

2. What is the average output or production of loom weaving in the country?

-There is no census on handloom weaving production in the Philippines at the moment. For textile and apparels/textiles you may refer to the link provided:
https://psa.gov.ph/statistics/manufacturing/aspbi
https://www.psa.gov.ph/content/producers-price-index-2018100-july-2023

3. What are the government initiatives to preserve handloom weaving in the Philippines?

-For DOST-PTRI, we have ongoing initiatives to preserve the handloom weaving industry. We have an ongoing Program entitled, “Digitalization of the Philippine Handloom Weaving Industry”. These include the establishment of an online registry and traceability platform that strategically maps the handloom weaving communities within the country. The weave designs are then digitized through the conversion of original weave patterns into a digital format which is also authenticated through the development of covert technology utilizing spectroscopy and textile material engineering. The Program's significance lies in its commitment to advancing knowledge and serving society. By implementing the proposed initiatives, such as scoping and assessment, digitization, and covert technology development, the Program aims to effectively tackle the issue of counterfeiting, safeguard the handloom weaving sector, and ensure the long-term preservation of the rich cultural traditions inherent in the Philippine handloom weaving.
