Your Request

You asked for Water Hyacinth Fiber as Erosion Control Mat.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of the information you requested.

1) Based on our study here are the water hyacinth fiber properties:

Residual gum - 58.85%
Tensile strength - 1.16 N
Fiber fineness - 68.05 Denier
Your right to request a review

2) DOST-PTRI accepts fiber extraction services. However, there are also other groups doing this. In particular, the Villar Sipag group in Las Pinas that makes use of water hyacinth for handicrafts.

3 and 4) DOST-PTRI caters to processing services related to geotextile, geonet production using weaving process. Villar group also produces geotextiles from natural materials.

If you are unhappy with this response to your FOI request, you may ask us to carry out an internal review of the response by writing to Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Ph.D., at ptri.records@ptri.dost.gov.ph. Your review request should explain why you are dissatisfied with this response, and should be made within 15 calendar days from the date when you received this letter.
