Cable and Satellite TV Competition

Requested from PCC by I. Canua at 10:48 PM on Jul 01, 2020.
Purpose: Research, analyses
Date of Coverage: 07/01/2020 - 07/01/2020
Tracking no: #PCCom-107261524840

Canua 10:48 PM, Jul 01, 2020

Good day,

I would like to know the effect of the issuance of the Alias Cease and Desist Order against Sky Direct in Satellite TV market competition.

The franchise of Cignal TV Inc has a valid franchise until September 2020 under Republic Act No. 8169. If NTC will issued CDO against Cignal TV after September 2020, What will be the effect also in Satellite TV Market competition?

Executive 205, A Certificate of Authority to operate Cable Antenna Television (CATV) system shall be granted by the Commission on a non-exclusive basis and for a period not to exceed fifteen (15) years.

Canua 10:54 PM, Jul 01, 2020

The franchise of Sky Cable already expired, but still operating because of the executive order.

FICTAP also mentioned in an SMNI interview that other members have no franchises, but still operating.

Since it's a Executive Order, the President of the Philippines can amended or scrap the order.

If the President of the Philippines amends or scraps the Executive Order, and NTC issued CDO against Sky Cable and other cable operators, How will this effect the Cable TV market competition?

What will PCC actions to maintain the market competition in Cable TV and Satellite TV?
