Dear Harpters Ponteras,

Greetings!

This is in response to your email dated 7 October 2023 regarding turtle conservation (reference: Tracking number: #DENRBMB-367544957371).

Relative thereto, please find below our replies:

1. Turtle population for 5 years (2017-2022) – We regret that we do not have this information. Our office (BMB) as well as DENR Regional and field offices record and document encounters with marine turtles. These may be on the beach (as nesters or as hatchlings) or accidental by-catch in fishery activities. These encounters do not necessarily reflect the marine turtle population of the country.

2. Turtle population in Zamboanga del Sur – same reply as above

3. Turtle conservation facilities in the Philippines that generate income – Can you please elaborate on this?

4. Turtle migration patterns in the Philippines – Please find attached a report on this concern. If you will use the said report in your thesis, kindly acknowledge our Office appropriately.

5. Ecotourism Plan in Panikian Island, Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur – May we recommend that you directly coordinate with the local government unit and/or local tourism office of Pitogo on this.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of this email. And for further clarifications, please do not hesitate to write back.

Thank you and good luck.

Respectfully,

Wildlife Resources Division Decision Maker
FOI Receiving Officer
