Dear Mr. Aguila,

This pertains to your request in the eFOI dated July 7, 2023 about the Biodiversity of Lake Buhi.

Regarding the Water Quality Data and WQMA Management Plans for Lake Buhi, we suggest contacting the Environmental Management Bureau Region 5 (EMB-5) as the data you are requesting falls under their mandate. You can reach them at this phone number: (052) 742-2824, or via email at r5support@emb.gov.ph.

Mangrove species typically thrive in coastal wetlands with brackish water, which usually occurring near estuaries where freshwater and seawater mix. As Lake Buhi is a freshwater lake, the planting of mangroves is not recommended. Alternatively, several riparian species of flora could be considered, such as Tibig – Ficus sp., sedges from the Cyperaceae family and Bankal – Nauclea orientalis. Please note that these examples would be only appropriate if they have historically been present within the lakeshore area of Lake Buhi. Other freshwater swamp species native to the area may gbe considered.
Updated information on the flora species present in Lake Buhi may be requested from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Camarines Sur, located at Panganiban Drive, Naga City (PENRO-Camarines Sur). This information could be beneficial for identifying alternative species for your study. They can be contacted at phone number: (054) 472-8252.
