Dear Daren Notario,

Greetings!

With regard to your inquiry on the Data on Knifefish Population and Damage to Fisheries Sector in Laguna Lake, we would like to apologize for not responding sooner. We had experienced technical difficulty with our eFOI portal in recent months. We hope that the following data would suffice to respond to your inquiries.

1.	Knifefish Estimated Population (2009-2023)

At present, we do not have available data as to the total population of knifefish covering the period 2009-2023. We would like to suggest though to try with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for any available data.

2.	Volume and value of Damage by Knifefish to the Fisheries per Municipality (2009-2023)

Please find attached data on the production catch of different species in Laguna Lake for the following period:

a.	January to June 2021
b.	January to June 2022
c.	January to August 2023 (we are still processing the data for the months of September to December 2023)
With regards to the value of knifefish, based on the existing price of knifefish in Binangonan Fishport, price per kilo of knfiefish ranges from 50-65 pesos.

3.	List of Past and On going Program / Interventions to Contain knife Population

Sometime in 2009 and 2010, the Agency implemented the project “Containment of Knifefish Infestation in Laguna Lake” in partnership with the lakeshore cities/municipalities and the FARMCs. The project aimed to increase the market price of knifefish from Php 10.00 per kilo to Php 20.00 per kilo. LLDA allocated a total of Php 2.4 Million for the said project.

At present, LLDA is an active member of the Inter-Agency Technical Working Group on the Containment of Invasive Species in Laguna de Bay composed of DTI, BFAR, DOST, DENR, TESDA, DILG, DSWD and FARMC.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Community Development Division (CDD) FOI Receiving Officer
